Tattered Banners

It’s been a while since we’ve been posting regularly here. However, fueled by the energy of our redesign and some really neat new projects, I’m going to make a sincere attempt to get things restarted around here. To start things off (again), and in honor of National Talk Like a Pirate Day (Sept 19) enjoy some piratey tattered banner vectors. We’ve missed you all. It’s nice to be back.

How to Have a Heart – Illustrator Tutorial

step13

I posted a simple heart vector last week, which I actually had a fair amount of fun making. As I was making it, I noticed how many shortcuts and simple techniques make the process of vector illustration so much easier. I’ve learned a ton of great stuff from Vectips, Vectortuts, and Abduzeedo and wanted to pass along some workflow tips of my own. Have fun.

Oh, I should stress (as though it’s not already obvious), I’m no anatomist.

Have a Heart, Happy Valentines +6

heart_header

Introducing the first free resource in the ClickPop comeback.  I wanted to get this out for valentines day, but got a little caught up in some fun projects I’ve been working on. So here it is, better late than never. Consider it a very early 2010 valentines day release.

As always, if you come up with something great, let us know. We love to see the amazing work creative people do with our humble resources. Happy illustrating.

Updated: Vector Tutorial – Obama Logo (Added .ai and .eps Assets)

No matter what you think of his politics, U.S. presidential cantidate Barack Obama has a pretty incredible marketing and design machine behind him. One strong example of this is his “O” logo. Simple, attractive, symbolic, it’s undeniably an effective logo.

Another aspect of the Obama campaign that is attractive to a lot of American’s is the grass-roots, everybody can be involved attitude that they’ve been trying quite successfully to convey. In honor of that attitude, and just in time for the Democratic Convention, I thought I would show some really helpful Illustrator techniques by making the Obama logo. In this tutorial, we’ll be going over the Pathfinder, Envelope Warps, Opacity Masks, and Gradient Meshes. And we’ll use a drop shadow!

What’s that? You don’t think we can do it? I have three words for you my friend.

Yes. We. Can.

Palin Shirts For Sale!

A couple weeks ago, I gave out a Palin vector. I’ve been playing around with it since then, and finally have a shirt for sale. It combines the absolutely gorgeous Sarah Palin with her home state, and state motto, appropriately, “North to the future.”

I actually went to a McCain/Palin event with some friends and some shirts. The shirts were an enormous hit, and everybody and their grandmother (seriously, an elderly lady with a super old camera) wanted to get pictures. I don’t want to exaggerate, but I think we may have been more popular than McCain today.

Governor Palin was actually kind enough to autograph one for us, and we’ll be auctioning that off for charity soon. We’re still working out the details, but I’ll let you know on that one.

In any case, be a pal and pick up a Palin shirt. Photos from the rally after the jump.

ClickPopMedia <3’s Threadless

I personally have been a big fan of Threadless for quite some time now. The designs they offer are, generally speaking, more beautiful, funny, or insightful than your run of the mill t-shirt. However, this might just be about to change. You see, I’ve posted a design to Threadless, and if it does not get printed, I promise I will throw a hissy fit and never use Threadless again!

Well, maybe not for a week or so at least.

As you can see, I’ve used a ton of the our free vectors. So if you like the design and want to support the site, give us a quick vote. I’ll love you forever if you do.

A Vector Bird Wing

Last month was a really heavy month of work for us, and as a result you may have noticed that we weren’t posting as often. Thankfully, that’s all about to change (hopefully not the work load, just the fact that one way or the other we’ll be posting more often).

To kick things off, we have a very useful vector bird wing.

As always, let us know if you do anything neat with it. Have fun, friends.

Water Buffalo Skull Vector

Howdy pardners. I’m glad you stopped by the ol’ ClickPop Ranch. Sit down, rest your feet a spell, and enjoy this water buffalo skull vector. I realize that this probably isn’t the way a water buffalo rancher would write. It’s more like a regular buffalo rancher, but hey, it gets the job done.

Batik Photoshop Patterns

Last week we gave out some free Batik vectors. In that post, I mentioned that if anyone wanted the patterns as Photoshop patterns, I’d be glad to share them. Well, you asked, and I’ve finally come through.

In this pack of Photoshop patterns I have 6 different color schemes ranging from nice to WEIRD. There is a 500px wide and a 250px wide version of each pattern. Have fun my friends! Let us know if you do anything wonderful with them.

Batik is Beautiful – Free Vector Swatches UPDATED

Last week I posted some desktop wallpaper of a new vector swatch I was working on. Well, the pattern is finally finished, and I’m pretty happy with it. The design is based on a beautiful Indonesian batik fabric I saw and couldn’t get out of my mind. It’s exotic, a little trippy, and a lot of fun to play around with.

I set up three different color schemes: a regal orange and blue, an electric yellow and blue, and a psychedelic green and pink. I also made a bunch of Photoshop patterns from this swatch, if anyone wants those, let me know and I’ll post them.

Batik (from wikipedia.com, emphasis mine)

a wax-resist dyeing technique used on textile. Batik is found in several countries of West Africa, such as Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon and Mali, and in Asia, such as India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Iran, the Philippines, Malaysia and Thailand. However, it is in Indonesia that it is considered a national art form.

Download the Batik Vector Swatch (.ai and Illustrator swatches)

Update: First, the Batik vectors have been updated to fix a few issues with the patterns and include two more color schemes. We’ve also released some Photoshop patterns of these swatches.

If you come up with some cool color schemes, we’d be excited to see them.

Free Brick Textures

In case you didn’t know, we’re all designers or developers at ClickPop. As such, we’re always looking for great stuff to help with our designs. Recently, Weese and I were in need of some textures of different types. So we set off on a quest around town to find the most splendid textures our neighborhood has to offer.

We managed to get some really useful textures, and we thought you might be able to use some of them as well. This week we have a bunch of brick textures. Let us know if you liked these, and would be interested in some of the other textures we amassed. Four more textures and a link to the zip are after the jump.

Indonesian Batik Wallpaper

I’m finishing up a cool vector swatch based on a beautiful Indonesian batik. In anticipation of that freebie, I wanted to offer another one, our first wallpaper offering. Keep in mind, although the pattern is quite nice, it can get a little hard on the eyes. I hope you enjoy them.

Free Vectors: Penguins!

Penguins

We’re working on revamping certain parts of the site right now… Actually, we always seem to be revamping some part of the site at all times. Sometimes the revamps are minor, boring little usability things, and sometimes they’re more interesting. We don’t generally announce every time we upgrade something, but this time we couldn’t help ourselves.

You see, this revamp involves penguins. You read that right, glorious penguins.

Along with being a neato blog that gives away free vectors, textures, pixel paterns, and flash things, and offers tutorials on illustrator, web programming, flash, photoshop, etc, we’re also a new media marketing and web development company. We do all sorts of projects, for all sorts of people. Sometimes it’s web design, other times we do web app development, and sometimes we set up viral marketing campaigns and social advertising internet campaigns for some really cool companies.

We don’t advertise ourselves much on our blog, and that will probably stay the same, but we are soon going to be changing our “About” tab to a “Services” page that would really help show off our ClickPopSkills. And like I said, there will be penguins.

So have some fun with the cute little penguin chick, fun-loving rockhopper penguin, regal king penguin, and awe-inspiring emperor penguin.
