So over the past two months I’ve been painting these Panels of VQ’s Vectors. That got the boys and I over at ClickPop talking about how it was time to teach you how to create them too. It’s pretty simple, all you’ll need is:

-Panel, which can purchased online or at your local arts and craft store (Michaels, A.C. Moore, etc.)

-A can(s) of spray paint

-Black Chisel Tip marker (I prefer Grand & Toy, or Sharpie).

Below is just a shot of my panel.

Next you’re going to sketch out your drawing with a regular black marker, I used a sharpie for this part. My inspiration for this panel is from VQ’s vector of Paul and his Nuclear Warning vector

Next, go over your initial sketch with your Chisel Tipped Marker (Grand & Toy seem to work really well for this). Make sure your perimeter lines are at least the width of your chisel tip.

Now, grab your can of spray, and work from the outside of the canvas inward. Your paint is going to start drying before you finish painting the whole canvas, so be looking for any white that might come through. Be sure to get even lines. If you spray over your drawing, don’t worry about it, actually you can get some cool cell-shading effects by going over the lines a little.

Finish spraying the whole canvas. Let it dry for about 20 minutes (if your location is colder it may take longer).

Then take your canvas and go over all of your lines again with your Chisel Tipped Marker.

And then you’re done! Below is all four panels for the ClickPop Office. If you end up making millions on your panels, be sure to let me know. Enjoy! God bless you guys. -Weese

A couple of weeks ago I posted a painting that I had begun. Last night I decided to get back to work on it. The triptych (pronounced:[trip-tik] NOUN Fine Arts. a set of three panels or compartments side by side, bearing pictures, carvings, or the like.) was my very hip wife’s idea.

So feast your eyes! A project done at 3:00 am, and “play by play” pictures of the progress…(above is the picture of where I had left it a number of weeks ago.)

I added the sun, it’s too bad i couldn’t use a sweet Illustrator Sun from yesterday’s tutorial…

And here I begin the ground.

Finally, the close to finished product ( I might go back and “edit” a few things.) But there you have it.

Well, that’s all for today, hope you enjoyed the “paintastic” progress. If you dig it, cheers to YOU. Maybe I’ll get a shot of it on our wall to show what it looks like separated. The Lord bless you.

A few friends have asked how to sketch graffiti. I started sketching graffiti in Junior High School to keep occupied (I usually sat in the back of the class). So here is a quick overview on how I sketch graffiti when wanting to pass some time; the reason I mention that is to let you know that this is a more time consuming approach. Also, this type of sketching is for when you don’t have anything but a pen and a “whatever type” of paper (printer paper, napkin, math assignment, etc.) handy. I’ll only be using a ball point pen and and my sketch book(Sometimes I feel that using color in a sketch is a waste of time; markers, pastels and colored pencils never look as good as paint…this is just my opinion).

Now as a point, you should know this is how I do it. This is NOT the way I would sketch if you’re looking to develop a “line by line” lettering structure for your graffiti. I used to just draw any word that came to mind, in the past few years I’ve been sketching books of the Bible and reference verses. This one will be a quick sketch of Hosea 10:v12.

Alrighty boys and girls!!! And away we go!

I’ve put down my word with a quick single line of the pen, the red arrow is to highlight that with my style I try to keep the bottom of my double based letters (A, H, K, M, N, R, W, and X) curved and fluid. Also, I like to connect my letters as much as possible, it’s definitely not as complex and awesome looking as “wildstyle” but it’s not square and rigid as “blockbuster” either…

Next, I begin to thicken my perimeter lines.

Once done with that, I figure out which way I want my shadowing to go. On this one, I’ll put it coming off to the right. Some of my favorite shadowing is when the shadows are coming from both left and right and then meet up in the middle. It’s usually done in a wildstyle piece. It’s Cool stuff.

Then you can fill in your shadow…this time I’ll just go all black. Bare bones people. That’s whats on the menu today.

And finally, the finished product! Your labor of love, and quick graffiti sketch with no frills.

Well, that’s it for this week. I hope you enjoyed learning a new way to get through algebra class. Along with these graffiti word sketches, you can always add some backgrounds and characters. It’s hours worth of coolness. And good practice for your next endeavor in the art of graffin’. If would be pretty rad if you had any sketches, comments or advice on how to sketch graffiti. I’ll take any worthwhile advice on the matter! Alright, the Lord bless you and keep you.

This week, instead of doing some sort of graffiti tip, demonstration, or overview; I wanted to let you see the beauty of the art being “drawn out.” That way, you can see what writing graffiti is like. I didn’t have time do a piece, tape it and get VQ to edit it because we’re flying to England tonight. So, I started looking for some good footage online.

In the beginning of my search to find just the right video, I had no idea that a one of this caliber was out there. In it, you’ll see the technicality of graffiti, all the while getting the Truth (his name is Jesus…). Check it out, and pay special attention to how the writers paint over and re-use sections that were previously painted. It’s solid. And props to the GG Crew for their impressive and blessed work.

When I’ve tried to talk about graffiti to people not familiar with it, I’ve found most don’t even realize that there’s thought behind it and that it’s a proper art. Many feel that "writing" is always gang related, just like rap music is always about violence, sex and drugs. A couple years ago I was even chewed out at a national bookstore chain for asking where their books on graffiti were in the art section…

With that said, I’ve decided to do a quick overview on some of the basics tips used on spray cans. You should note that ClickPopMedia doesn’t support writing on public property, and feels that graffiti is a viable art form that should treat others property with respect. I hope you find this video helpful, and can use the information on it to worship God as you hone your gifts.

So this is officially my “third” oil paining…but when it’s done, I will have six oil paintings under my oily painted belt. (Yea, it’s a messy belt, but somebody has to wear it) Usually I work with spray paint, and latex…But I’m getting into the whole “artist” end of paint.

This piece was my wife’s idea, and we’ll be hanging it in our new place. The boss man, VQ, wants me to post on it as it progresses. I hope you dig it as much as I do, and since I have no background in oil painting, save the Bob Ross TV Show that I watched as a child…I pray it turns out well. If you do have some knowledge of how to paint a sunset with messy oil paint, share the wealth and leave a comment! Alrighty, this is Weese from ClickPop signing off.

The Lord bless you.
